Although the derailment briefly impacted movement towards Puducherry, the main line remained unaffected, and there was no disruption to traffic on the primary track. By 8:40 AM, the affected line was cleared, and normal train services resumed.

The statement clarified that the MEMU train, numbered 66013, was within the Villupuram yard limits during shunting operations when one of the wheels of its sixth coach derailed. At the time, fewer than 60 passengers were on board, and no injuries occurred.

The Villupuram-Puducherry MEMU is a short-distance train that spans approximately 38 km.
